June at ILCS means that our Annual Heritage Week celebrations are right around the corner. A favorite and integral part of this tradition has always been the visit from Peggy Lynn, Dan Duggan, and Dan Berggren. It is with heavy hearts that we share the recent passing of Dan Duggan. For decades, Dan was a beloved part of the ILCS Heritage Week tradition as one-third of the Adirondack folk music trio affectionately known as the Jamcrackers or "Peggy, Dan, and Dan."
Generations of ILCS students, faculty, and alumni were touched by Dan's music, humor, stories, and his genuine kindness. His annual visits became a cherished part of the Heritage Week experience, creating memories that have lasted a lifetime. Through his songs and storytelling, Dan helped connect our students to the rich culture and history of the Adirondacks leaving a legacy that will continue to live on in our school community.
Dan's songs, jokes, and stories remain in the hearts of so many throughout the Adirondacks and beyond. While he will be greatly missed, we feel incredibly fortunate to have known him and to have shared so many years of music and friendship. We extend our deepest condolences to Dan's family, friends, fellow musicians, and all who loved him.
Although Dan's presence will be deeply missed this year, we are grateful that Peggy Lynn and Dan Berggren will still join us for our annual Flag Day Celebration on Friday, June 12.
Peggy and Dan will provide small music workshops for our elementary students in the morning and will perform a concert for students, staff, and any available community members at 12:30 p.m. in the ILCS Gymnasium.
As we prepare for Heritage Week, we invite ILCS alumni, families, and community members to share their favorite memories of Dan, Heritage Week, or a favorite song from Peggy, Dan, and Dan in your homes, and in your hearts.
We look forward to gathering together to celebrate Heritage Week, honor Dan's memory, and continue a tradition that has meant so much to our school for generations.
