This past Friday, ILCS middle and high school students had the opportunity to explore a wide variety of career paths during our Career & Trade Exploration Afternoon — and what an incredible day it was!
Students selected their top three career interests and rotated through engaging, hands-on 30-minute sessions led by professionals from our local community and beyond. Each presenter shared not only what they do, but why they love their work — giving students authentic insight into the many pathways available after high school.
We were honored to welcome the following presenters:
Mr. Ben Conboy – Accounting & Finance
Mr. Shaun Hazlitt of South Paw Bistro and Timber & Thyme – Culinary & Hospitality
Mr. Jake Gaechter of Izzy's Market – Culinary & Hospitality
Mr. Jay Scott –
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
Forest Ranger
Mr. Abe Gadway – Outdoor Adventure & Guiding
Ms. Hayley Puterko – Welding & Skilled Trades
Ms. Kylie Cannan – Marketing
Mrs. Jodie Seymour – Mindfulness Coach & Author
Mr. Connor Burgess – Excavating & Construction
Ms. Addie Trento – Buyer for
Macy's
(New York City)
Throughout the afternoon, students asked thoughtful questions, participated in hands-on demonstrations, and learned about the education, skills, and real-world experiences needed for success in each field. The event concluded with a full panel session, where students had the chance to hear from all presenters and dive deeper into their career journeys.
This event truly highlighted the importance of career exploration at the middle and high school levels. By connecting classroom learning to real-world professions, students gained valuable perspective and inspiration as they begin thinking about their own futures.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our presenters for generously sharing their time and expertise. We are also grateful to our ILCS cafeteria team for providing an excellent lunch for our guests, and to our teachers and staff who opened their classrooms and helped host the event.
The excitement was contagious — and students are already looking forward to next year’s Career & Trade Exploration Afternoon!
