Skye Hodgson is a junior, who is a first year student in the Culinary Arts program at SAEC (Southern Adirondack Education Center). Skye was recently elected for a rather prestigious position of SkillsUSA NYS Area 3-Vice President. Skye will be representing Career and Technical Education students all across New York. Through this position Skye is an advocate and communicator -representing students from the entire capital region. Skye’s responsibilities will include organizing events, liaison between local chapters and the state association, promoting membership, organizing area level conferences and developing leadership among peers. Skye will represent not only Indian Lake but the entire region at state level meetings, advocate for Career and Technical Education and assist in running state conferences.
Skye became interested in pursuing this position when Chef Nick Zwart encouraged her to run for office. He felt she embodied the skills required to take on this position. The process began by Skye completing a set of pre-work questions regarding the SkillsUSA framework. Next, Skye attended a Fall Leadership Conference in Albany where she received the Statesman Award. After the conference, Skye had to come up with a speech to present at the election, along with taking a SkillsUSA knowledge test about the history, and what the organization stands for.
I asked Skye how it felt to not only be representing Indian Lake and SAEC, but representing the CTE students of New York State. She said “I am super excited about this opportunity to grow my leadership skills. The hard work paid off and I am excited to see where this new chapter will take me”.
Skye, we are too!
Congratulations!
