Respect Matters: Celebrating Our September Standout

Throughout the month of September, ILCS celebrated Respect as our Character Education trait. Respect is one of the most important qualities we can model and practice — it means treating others with kindness, listening thoughtfully, and valuing the people and world around us. Across all grade levels, our students demonstrated what respect looks like in action, making our school community an even more positive and caring place to learn and grow.

Each month, teachers and staff nominate students who go above and beyond in showing our featured character trait. We are proud to recognize the following students for being shining examples of Respect at ILCS this September:

Pre-K – Ryleigh Porter
Ryleigh is a very respectful young lady who uses good manners, shares spaces responsibly, and works well with her classmates. She is always helping in the classroom — pushing in chairs, cleaning up materials, and assisting friends when needed. She listens attentively and follows directions with care. Nice job, Ryleigh!

Kindergarten – Amelia Hoag
Amelia is a shining example of what it means to show respect every day. She is kind, polite, and always uses her manners with both classmates and teachers. Amelia listens carefully when others are speaking and treats everyone with kindness and care. She also shows respect for herself by making good choices and always trying her best.

Kindergarten – Carson Wells
Carson leads by example everywhere he goes. He listens to his classmates and teachers, uses kind words, and shows respect in all situations. Carson’s positive attitude and polite behavior brighten both his classroom and ILCS as a whole. Great job, Carson!

2nd Grade – Brennan Porter
Brennan does an outstanding job showing respect in and out of the classroom. She speaks politely, uses positive language, and follows rules consistently. Brennan is kind, works well with others, and even looks out for younger students. We are so proud of you, Brennan!

3rd Grade – Grace Burgess
Grace consistently demonstrates outstanding respect in all areas of the classroom. She shows respect through her kind manners, care for classroom materials, and willingness to help others. Grace listens thoughtfully, follows rules, and sets a positive example for her classmates every day.

4th Grade – Harper Spring
Harper is always respectful and kind to everyone. She follows all the rules, does whatever is asked of her, and does it all with a smile on her face.

5th Grade – Lilly Welsh
Lilly Welsh was nominated by her classmates as a wonderful example of respect. Her peers shared that, “She is respectful, always nice, and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.” Another student noted, “She listens to Ms. Moran every time she gives a direction,” and “She is quiet and does her work.” Others added, “She respects her classroom and the things around her.”
For these reasons—and many more—Lilly truly deserves to be recognized for the character trait of respect.

6th Grade – Kylee Scott
Kylee sets a great example for her middle school peers. She is an active listener and consistently treats classmates and teachers with kindness and respect. Her thoughtful behavior helps create a positive and inclusive environment for everyone.

8th Grade – Cameron Naubereit
Cam is known for his respectful attitude and positive energy. He goes out of his way to greet others with a kind word or friendly question. Whether it’s saying good morning or encouraging a friend, Cam shows that small gestures of respect can make a big difference.

9th Grade – Scarlet Welsh
Scarlet has been an invaluable addition to our Quiz Bowl Team. She is courteous and respectful to her teammates during practices and approaches challenges with both confidence and kindness. Her positive attitude makes her a wonderful role model.

10th Grade – Brendan Husson
Brendan greets teachers, classmates, and peers each day with a smile and a positive attitude. He’s always willing to lend a hand and takes time to encourage others. As a member of the Big Buddies Program, Brendan truly models what it means to respect and care for others.

These students exemplify what it means to live out the value of Respect every day. Their actions—both big and small—help create a school culture where everyone feels valued and supported.

Congratulations to all of our Respect nominees! We’re so proud of the example you set for the entire ILCS community.
