During week #2 of our summer recreation program, we embraced the fascinating world of bugs with our "Buggin' for Bugs" theme! We kicked things off with a fun and tasty activity, making dirt cups filled with chocolate pudding, cookies, and gummy worms. The children then had the opportunity to excavate bugs buried in clay and encased in amber, diving into the science of paleontology. Our garden explorations allowed us to interact with real-life bugs, and we also got hands-on by creating our own seed tape to take home and plant. As a creative touch, we crafted our very own birdhouses.
We were also excited to welcome Hamilton County Public Health, who visited to teach us about proper handwashing techniques and shared important lessons about ticks. Each participant received their own tick removal kit, along with informational packets to help keep them safe while exploring the outdoors.
To wrap up the week, we ventured to the Indian Lake Theater for a screening of How to Train Your Dragon, followed by a visit to the Arts Center in Blue Mountain Lake. There, we engaged in some fun theater-based exercises, enhancing our creative expression and teamwork skills.
This week, we’ll saddle up for the Wild West as we explore this exciting theme with new activities and adventures!
