Perseverance Shines at Indian Lake Central School: Celebrating Mrs. Stephanie Bennett and All Our Dedicated Staff
At Indian Lake Central School, perseverance is more than just a word—it’s a daily practice demonstrated by our incredible teachers and staff. Whether they’re guiding students through complex math problems, keeping the cafeteria running smoothly, or ensuring everyone gets to school safely, our ILCS staff continues to show up, support our students, and give their best, no matter the challenge.
This month, we are proud to recognize Mrs. Stephanie Bennett, ILCS math teacher, as the Perseverance Award winner. Nominated by multiple students, Mrs. Bennett stands out for her dedication, consistency, and endless support. Students describe her as someone who “never gives up on a student” and who “always finds ways to make math understandable.” Whether it's staying after school to provide extra help, adjusting her lessons to meet student needs, or being available outside of class hours—even sharing her contact information so students can reach out when they’re stuck—Mrs. Bennett goes above and beyond every single day. As one student put it, “She is awesome!”
But Mrs. Bennett isn’t the only one who shows what perseverance looks like at ILCS. Many other staff members were also nominated by students for their determination, commitment, and strength in the face of challenges:
Mr. Dora, Music Teacher, keeps going strong—even when his chorus class won’t stop talking! His determination to continue teaching despite disruptions is a great example of patience and perseverance.
Mr. Griffin, Bus Driver, was nominated multiple times for consistently showing up and staying calm while driving a bus full of loud and energetic students. “He never wants to drive the bus but he does,” one student wrote, highlighting his reliability.
Mr. Jim Pine, Long-Term Substitute, is known for his willingness to help, his clear explanations, and for being someone students “can count on.”
Mr. Librett, Special Education Teacher, shows up every day with a smile and a positive attitude. Students appreciate his belief in their potential and his willingness to help no matter what.
Mr. MacNeal, Math Teacher, received some light-hearted but meaningful recognition for “putting up with us” and handling “the craziest class of all” with resilience.
Mr. Peet, Physical Education Teacher, is a favorite for his ability to persevere through physical challenges—including shoulder surgery—while continuing to coach, teach, and stay upbeat for his students.
Mr. Spring, Senior Custodian and Bus Driver, was praised for keeping the school clean and running while also handling transportation duties.
Mr. Tracey, BOCES Bus Driver, was recognized for always showing up and getting students where they need to go, no matter what.
Mrs. Eldridge, Teaching Assistant, continues to teach high school English with commitment and care, even when the work is tough.
Mrs. Hinckley, French Teacher, shows patience and grace by staying calm and positive even when students forget their homework.
Mrs. Hoag, Reading Specialist, was praised for her hard work organizing March reading activities and her unwavering support for student success.
Mrs. Longacker, Guidance Counselor, has weathered many tough situations this year and continued to help and support students through every challenge.
Mrs. Mulvey, Superintendent, was recognized for creating a safe and supportive environment, and for helping students work through conflicts.
Mrs. Smith, Pre-K Teacher, demonstrates incredible patience and strength by working with little learners all day and “not losing her mind,” as one student affectionately noted.
Mrs. Wolfe, Library Media Specialist, balances a packed schedule while excelling in her classes and always showing kindness.
Ms. Frasier, Cafeteria Cook Manager, was recognized by several students for not only making great food but also powering through tough times and always having a positive attitude.
Every one of these nominations is a reminder of the strength, patience, and heart that our staff members bring to ILCS every single day. They are role models not only in their professional duties but in the way they handle life’s daily challenges—with determination, care, and a deep commitment to our students.
Congratulations again to Mrs. Stephanie Bennett, and a heartfelt thank you to all of our incredible ILCS staff for showing us what true perseverance looks like!
