My Two Scents

“Hey, I am trying to sleep,” barked Ralf, over the fence. “Hey have you seen this, it smells like fun,” said Sinch, sniffing at a coin.
“Hé, J’essaie de dormir,” a aboyé Ralf, par dessus la clôture. “Hé est-ce que tu as vu ceci, ça sent l’amusement,” a dit Sinch, reniflant une pièce.

Ralf tried to explain that the coin was a penny and was very common and what the penny represented to humans, but Sinch only wanted to sniff.
Ralf a essayé d’expliquer que la pièce était un penny et que c’était vraiment commun et ce que le penny répresentait aux humains, mais Sinch voulait seulement le renifler.

Sinch was intent on smelling the coin. It smelled like blueberry ice cream. Sort of like an Adirondack meadow. Sinch couldn’t get enough of the smell and soon he had the coin stuck in his nose.
Sinch était déterminé à sentir la pièce. Ça sentait l'odeur de la glace myrtille. Un peu comme une prairie Adirondack. Sinch ne pouvait pas avoir assez de l'odeur et bientôt il avait la pièce coincée dans son nez.

That is until the little dog sneezed, shooting the coin right at Ralf. The coin hit the bigger dog smack on the nose.
C’est jusqu'à ce que le petit chien a eternué, lançant la pièce directement vers Ralph. La pièce a frappé le plus grand chien directement sur le nez.

While Ralf rubbed his nose, Sinch realized that if the coin smelled like ice cream, then maybe there was ice cream close by.
Pendant que Ralph frottaít son nez, Sinch s’est rendu compte que si la pièce avait l’odeur de glace, alors peut-être qu'il y avait de la glace tout proche.

The more he sniffed, the more he could tell it was close by.
Le plus qu’il reniflait, le plus qu’il pouvait deviner que c'était, tout proche.

Sinch couldn’t see the ice cream, but he could sure smell it. He could smell it so much that he could taste it, but the only way he could really taste it - - - was to go find it.
Sinch ne pouvait pas voir la glace, mais il pouvait certainement la sentir. Il pouvait tant la sentir qu’il pouvait la gôuter mais la seule façon qu’il pouvait vraiment la gôuter --- c’était d'aller la trouver.

Off he ran and Ralf realized the little guy would soon be in trouble if he wasn’t watching after him.
Alors il s’en est allé en courant et Ralph s’est rendu compte que le petit type allait brentôt avoir des ennuis s’il ne veillait pas sur lui.

Sinch was short, but he was fast and it seemed like Ralf had lost him.
Sinch était petit, mais il était rapide et il semblait comme si Ralph l’avait perdu.

When the older dog rounded the corner he saw an ice cream store and in front of the store someone had dropped their ice cream.
Quand le chien plus âgé a arrondi au coin il a vu un glacier et devant le magasin quelqu’un avait laissé tomber leur glace.

Sinch was kind enough to share some of the ice cream with Ralf and it was very tasty.
Sinch était assez gentil de partager sa glace avec Ralph et elle était d’un très bon goût.

“Hey,” asked Sinch, “why not go for a walk.”
“Hé,” a demandé Sinch, “Pourquoi pas faire une promenade?”

“Why?” replied Ralf.
“Pourquoi?” a répondu Ralph.

“For the smell of it,” explained Sinch.
“Pour l’odeur” a expliqué Sinch.

Since they were already out of their yards and full of ice cream, Ralf agreed to go for a walk.
Puis qu’ils étaient déjà dehors de leurs cours et remplis de glace, Ralf a été d’accord de faire une promenade.

Like so many of their times together, the walk was a bit of an adventure. The two dogs roamed the neighborhood, smelling what ever came their way, with Ralf trying to keep Sinch out of trouble.
Comme tant de leurs moments ensemble, la promenade était un peu aventureuse. Les deux chiens erraient dans le quartier, sentant tout ce qui a traversé leur chemin, avec Ralf qui essayait d’éloigner Sinch des ennuís.

There were many enjoyable smells.
Il y avait beaucoup d’odeurs agréables.

There were flowers.
Il y avait des fleurs.

There was the trash can. Unfortunately there was also the cat in the trash can.
Il y avait la boîte à ordures. Malheureusement Il y avait aussi le chat dans la boîte à ordures.

There was the fire hydrant.
Il y avait la bouche d’incendie.

And much, much more!
Et beaucoup, beaucoup plus!

Then they smelled traffic, without the noise. It was odd, they could smell cars, gasoline and the little pine air fresheners, but there wasn’t a road near by.
Ensuite ils ont senti de la circulation, sans le bruit. C’était étrange, ils pouvaient sentir les voitures, l’essence et les petits désodorisants de pin, mais il n’y avait pas de rue proche.

They came to a fence. Inside the fence they saw 100’s of cars, none of them moving.
Ils sont arrivés à une clôture. Dans la clôture ils ont vu des centaines de voitures, aucune ne se déplaçait.

The gate to the Junk Yard was closed, but around the side Sinch found a hole in the fence and he was quickly inside. The opening was a tight fit for Ralf, but he was able to squeeze in.
La grille au dépot de ferraille était fermée, mais vers le côté Sinch a trouvé un trou dans la barrière et il a été rapidement à l'interieur. L'ouverture était un peu petit pour Ralph, mais il était capable de se forcer à travers.

The two dogs were amazed at what they saw. There were lots and lots of cars. Some were smashed and stacked like pancakes on a Sunday morning.
Les deux chiens étaient stupéfiés par ce qu'ils ont vu. Il y avait tant et tant des voitures. Quelques-un étaient brisées et empilées comme des crêpes une matinée de dimanche.

There was a big machine lifting the cars and putting them onto a belt that moved the cars into a big box.
Il y avait une grande machine qui levait les voitures et les mettait sur une courroie qui deplaçait les voitures dans une grande boîte.

When the cars came out of the box, they were all smashed into little squares.
Quand les voitures sont sorties de la boîte, elles étaient toutes écrasées dans des petit carrés.

All of the actions made the loudest noises that Ralf had ever heard!
Toutes les actions ont créé les bruits les plus forts que Ralph avait jamais entendus.

There was banging and crunching and the screeching of metal against metal. It seemed like the most dangerous place a dog could be.
Il y avait des coups et des crissements et des bruits perçant de métal contre métal. Il a semblé comme l'endroit le plus dangereux pour un chien.

That is when Ralf realized Sinch was missing.
C'est quand Ralph s'est rendu compte que Sinch était absent.

Again.
Encore.

In all the commotion, Sinch had smelled another smell. A sweet tasty smell that seemed like it was so good to - - - maybe even better than food, but how would you know until you chewed on it for a while.
Pendant tout le brouhaha Sinch a senti une autre odeur douce et savoureuse qui a semblé que c’était si bon à… peut-être même meilleure que la nourriture mais comment est-ce qu’on peut savoir à moins qu’on la mâche pendant un temps.

In his wondering, Sinch found an open car door with a half open package in it.
Dans son étonnement, Sinch a trouvé une porte de voiture ouverte avec un paquet demi-ouvert dedans.

He had to try it.
Il devait l’essayer

It smelled fruity and was fun to chew on. The odd thing was it didn’t chew down to smaller pieces.
Cela a senti le fruit et c’était amusant à mâcher. La chose étrange était qu’il ne se diminuait pas.

And it seemed like he couldn’t stop chewing.
Et il a paru comme s’il ne pouvait pas arrêter de mâcher.

It was the strangest thing.
C’était la chose la plus étrange.

What happened next both surprised and confused Sinch.
Ce qui est arrivé après a étonné autant que déconcerté Sinch.

What he was chewing on turned into a bubble and was coming out of his mouth.
Ce qu’il mâchait se transformait en une bulle et sortait de sa bouche.

Ralf didn’t know where Sinch had gone, but he feared the worse.
Ralf ne savait pas où Sinch est allé, mais il craignait le pire.

The older dog barked and barked, but there was no response from Sinch.
Le chien plus âgé a aboyé et aboyé mais il n’y avait pas de réponse par Sinch.

Ralf thought he had lost Sinch until . . . .
Ralf a pensé qu’il avait perdu Sinch jusqu’à . . . .

. . . . he saw one of the biggest bubble gum bubbles he had ever seen, with his own reflection in it.
. . . . il a vu une des bulles les plus grandes de chewing gum qu’il avait jamais vu, avec sa propre réflexion dessus.

Ralf decided this adventure was over.
Ralf a décidé que cette aventure était fini.

Sinch had gotten him into many sticky situations, but this was easily the stickiest one.
Sinch l'avait mis dans beaucoup de situations "collantes", mais ceci était facilement celle la plus collante.

Like most dogs, Ralf did not like baths, but the gum left him no choice. When he finally got the last piece of gum out of his fur, he decided he had had enough adventure with Sinch. He was already planning another nap.

Unfortunately for Ralf.
Malheureusemont pour Ralf.

His day was only beginning.
Son jour venait juste de commencer.
