The ILCS guidance department strives to engage all students in many different activities that focus on the development of a better sense of self, engagement in positive peer interactions, and instilling a desire to be successful in all facets of life. Fishing for Privileges is a weekly program for students in grades K-5. Students are recognized for demonstrating excellence in various ways. The chosen students of the week have the opportunity to work with teachers at all grade levels and disciplines, exposing them to a variety of career paths. Another program offered is the Big Buddy Mentoring Program. Leadership students from middle and high school dedicate time to work with students in the elementary grades. They participate in fun and educational activities such as goal-setting projects, partner reading, and celebrations with snacks and games.
