Summer Notes
Ways to stay healthy this summer:
Swimming
Everyone should learn how to swim. Especially in an area surrounded by lakes like we are. Swimming not only cools you off, it is great exercise. It conditions your heart while limiting stress to your joints.
Glens Falls YMCA offers America Red Cross swimming lessons for non members for around $70. Go to their website for
more information.

There may be other American Red Cross swimming classes in our area. You can contact Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter at 74 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY 792-6545 or visit their website for more information.

Hiking
This is my favorite summer activity. When my 2 boys were younger, we got together each week over the summer to hike. Barbara McMartin's book was one of our guides as well as the Adirondack Mountain Club's
We started out with short hikes, Sprague Pond, John's Pond, Clear Pond, Chimney Mountain, Sawyer Mountain, and worked up to the bigger mountains in the area starting with Wakely Mountain, then Blue Mountain, then Snowy Mountain and eventually the high peaks - our first one being Cascade. Not only did we get in shape but we taught our children about the environment and had a lot of fun doing it. This continued every summer until they got summer jobs. Now that they are adults, they still get together do hike or climb.
