The role of the elementary school counselor

Mrs. Pellettier is our Elementary School Counselor. She is available to address the personal, social, emotional, and academic needs of all students in grades K-5. Mrs. Pellettier works closely with the administration, staff, and parents to help our students feel confident, responsible, and productive. She counsels, consults, and collaborates with teachers and families to provide strategies to improve academic or behavioral concerns.

Classroom Guidance

Mrs. Pellettier goes into each elementary class every week and teaches students about Character Education. Class discussions and activities pertain to traits such as respect, responsibility, honesty, cooperation, etc. Other topics covered during our weekly meetings include Empathy, Conflict Resolution, and Anger Management. Also, at some point during the school year Mrs. Pellettier completes career and college awareness activities with the students.

Group Counseling Programs

Banana Splits is a support program for children who have experienced changes in their family structure because of death, divorce/separation, or remarriage of parents. Family permission is necessary to participate in the group, which meets every other week during the school day according to grade level.

Individual Counseling

Counseling services are available to help students develop appropriate skills or manage an issue concerning school, self, peers, adults, and family. Indian Lake’s Elementary Guidance and Counseling objective is focused on prevention, providing goals that are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. Parents and teachers can recommend counseling for students. Permission slips are required for on-going counseling sessions.

Crisis Counseling

Counseling is available to all students who need support when facing difficult challenges or overwhelming situations. No problem is too small or too big!
